Tell us about your business
I am an artist and maker based in Edinburgh, Scotland, and I create gifts which celebrate the places and pastimes that people hold close to their heart, such as golfing, cycling, camping and hillwalking.
I started my business while I was working in an independent gift shop in Bruntsfield, Edinburgh. We were often asked for locally or British-made items and were always on the lookout for products that would be particularly suited to male gifting. Having always been a creative person I decided to have a go at designing some items myself - I started with two tea towel designs just for that shop and the rest is history!
Tell us about the products you have entered
My Golf Gifts collection contains fine bone china mugs in two sizes, an enamel mug, cotton tea towel, coaster, magnet, and hanging ceramic decoration, all featuring my illustrations of golf equipment and clothing. I print almost everything myself in my Edinburgh studio, with only the tea towels being manufactured externally at a printing company in England.
Why did you choose to enter the GOTY competition? have you entered in the past and has it helped your brand grow?
This is my first time entering the GOTY competition. I have known about it for a number of years after seeing the logo on a variety of interesting and unusual products in the independent shop where I used to work. I was lucky enough to meet Sarah (the GA chief executive) at Scotland's Trade Fair in September 2022 and got to have a good chat with her about the competition, and decided that an entry made sense - it's a great opportunity for exposure and for feedback on my work.
What other products will you be bringing to market in 2023
I am currently designing a similar collection featuring kayaking and paddle boarding gifts, and have just completed a design featuring the Wainwrights (fells in the Lake District) to compliment my existing Munros design.
