Can you tell me a bit about your business and the inspiration behind your products?
Based in rural East Lothian we design, make and send out fabulous and fun craft kits to consumers and businesses. These come complete with everything you need to do the kit including full colour, step-by-step instructions. We believe that crafting is not only a fun and sociable hobby or way of life, but it can help reduce stress and anxiety, and increase mindfulness.
We are inspired by the rural countryside of East Lothian and our core values - respect, creativity and giving back to our community and charities.
The Peaceful Pond Needle Felting Kit is just beautiful. A little oasis with realistic bull rushes, a butterfly and dragonfly, the pebbles and water are just so inviting and you can almost hear the gentle hums of summer.
Working closely with Marie Curie we have developed a Felt Daffodil Brooch pack – a bright and vibrant brooch reflecting the well known daffodil of Marie Curie. The Crafty Kit Company donate £1 to Marie Curie with every kit we sell.
Our Hedgehog in a Hoop painting with wool kit is our gift of all time. The amazing and exquisite details of the hedgehog and the twinkly nuanced surroundings create the most endearing craft project and a much loved picture at the end.
In what ways has being a finalist of Gift of the Year affected your business?
Our crafting community know their crafts!! And they are all so interested in our kits that have been nominated for Gift of the Year 2024. An industry award like Gift of the Year highlights and reinforces the creativity and skill involved in creating an amazing kit for our crafting community. A nomination or finalist or winner flash on our website brings these lovely kits to everyone’s attention.
Which are your favorite products throughout the rest of the awards? The ‘Create An Amazing Animal Kingdom Giant Map’ by Clockwork Soldier in the Children’s, Educational and Pre-School category is one of our favourites. The illustrations are just lovely and there’s no messy glue or scissors involved.
The Contemporary Gift Category is amazing, and we love the Modern Art Distillery – it’s such an great idea to use beautiful bottles with stunning art work from emerging artists. Almost too good to drink!
Would you recommend a business to enter the GOTY awards and why?
We would recommend other businesses to enter the Gift of the Year Awards. It brings a real focus to the team when discussing individual kits for the entry process and helps to really look at our product range in a different way. After all the hard work the team do it is so wonderful to receive a nomination and see our product on the web site, with the excitement building for the Awards Evening.
