The WASTE LESS Sheepskin Range
Westmorland Sheepskins
The sheepskin itself is a by-product of the meat industry. The offcuts used in the making of this collection are 'waste' from the manufacturing process of other products like sheepskin coats and slippers. These offcuts are then gathered together and reused, rather than going to landfill.
Even the tiniest scraps find purpose as the filling in draft excluders and door stops, ensuring minimal waste throughout our production process.
And so we reuse. There is less waste. And we waste-less. Smashing hey.
Materials Description
90% of the product range is made from natural Merino Sheepskin offcuts.The remaining 10% is made up of handles, backing materials, zips and fillings.
The leather used for the tabs and handles on the Doorstops and draught Excluders are made from Bovine Leather offcuts.
The Doorstops are currently filled with an inner bag that is filled with locally sourced stone and sheepskin offcuts / waste.
The Draught Excluders are currently filled with sheepskin offcuts / waste.
We are investigating alternative options for fillings with H Dawson, Keighley.
The Rugs and Chair Pads are currently backed with a synthetic fabric for aesthetic reasons (the backs are visible and very 'patchworked'. The backing also helps make the rugs and pads non-slip. We are investigating cost effective more sustainable alternatives.
